An Elderly Couple Tie the Knot
Should we allow our elderly couples to get married?

A 68-year-old man married a 78-year-old woman on Saturday 2 June 2007 at the Immanuel Lutheran Congregation in Keetmanshoop.

Gert Coetzee and Sara Dawids met some years ago following the death of Sara's first husband, but cannot recall the exact date or place.

The ceremony was conducted by the ELCRN church's Dean for the Keetmanshoop Circuit, Simon Petrus Tiboth. Only death will part them, said the new wed Mrs Coetzee.

Sara, who is visually impaired, said that Gert takes care of all the domestic chores and will be responsible for her burial when she dies since she does not have any family. Her only two sons passed away.

They decided to tie the knot because people were appparenlty gossiping too much about them living together. "I love my wife, and her blindness is no problem for me at all," he said.
